Who are Morningside Cycles?

Morningside Cycles is made up of Craig with occasional support from Paul, his father. Craig has worked on bikes most of his life and spent his younger years learning how to rebuild bicycles from his dad who spent many years racing and building motorbikes and bicycles.  From an early age, he would help his old man fix the bikes they cycled, from flat repairs to gear adjustments and everything in between.

It wasn’t until Craig began living in Vancouver BC in Canada that he really got into the mechanics of a bicycle.

“I worked in one of BC’s largest and no doubt busiest cycle shops, firstly as a mechanic and then the managing and running of the store and the workshop”

Whilst Craig was working in Vancouver he completed the Trek university programme and the Shimano TEC (Technology Education and Certification) programme. The Trek programme was an all-encompassing set of courses covering everything from Trek accessories to carbon frame building and the Shimano programme taught a lot about the mechanics of bicycles, how components work and how to fix, rebuild and correctly set-up drivetrain components including hydraulic brakes and electronic shifting systems.

Where's the best place you've ever ridden?'

The best place I have ridden my bike was at Whistler bike park, BC Canada. I would recommend a trip out there for anyone who is a keen mountain biker and fancies a mega challenge. It’s the ultimate bike park with trails for all capabilities with plenty of restaurants and bars to diagnose injuries after a big day out!

What's your current bicycle project?

I am currently rebuilding an old 1978 forest green Raleigh to a 1 x 8 city bike, with bar end shifters, as well as building up a Bianchi track frame!

Where do you currently ride?

I often ride on my local forest trail in Countesswells and Kirkhill on the mix of mountain bike trails.  I also ride my road bike frequently in the South Deeside area and up Cairn O’Mount, my love for the scenery and long sweeping landscape encourages me out to these locations.
